This is Occasional Paper no 52 of the Institute for Global Dialogue of Johannesburg, South Africa. It is titled “Informal Cross-Border Trade: The case of Zimbabwe”, was published in May 2006 and was authored by Daniel B. Ndlela. This study investigates informal cross-border trade in Zimbabwe within the context of its neighbouring states in Southern Africa. It conducts a preliminary assessment of the linkages (that is, of actors, goods, and routes) among states in the region, particularly South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. It also examines the current state, dynamics, and contradictions of government policy on the IS and cross-border trading activities.
