The challenge of food shortages in poor countries has created a space for different institutions to develop strategies to overcome food insecurity. The failure of the UN-WFP to eliminate food shortages affecting people in poor countries has created a space for private multinational corporations and agriculture research organisations to promote their solutions to food insecurity challenges. Their solutions have led to the development of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). Read more on why GMOs are not necessarily a good choice.
The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) with its major funders, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation, wrongly believe that GMOs are an appropriate solution for eliminating food shortages in poor countries. AGRA approaches to food security are scrutinized by Ashley Fent, Katie Talbot and Phil Bereano, of the Community Alliance for Global Justice (CAGJ).
