In 2006, a food security update was done for Mozambique. This update found that household food availability and access was stable over several months. Second season production was satisfactory, and, in some places, the performance of second-season maize was superior to that of the main season, resulting in adequate food availability. At the time, reasonable food prices were favorable for consumers and resulted in increased household food access. The update cautions decision makers that despite the positive figures, food insecurity was still possible. Hence they have been asked to monitor the situation closely.Â
