Food security, rural development and health equity in Southern Africa

Dr Mickey Chopra, from the University of the Western Cape at the time of publishing, was commissioned to produce this research paper that explores equity concerns around food security and nutrition within the SADC and East Africa region. “The paper aims to analyse the current food security and nutrition situation in the region and the health and equity issues and policy concerns arising.” In this paper, Dr. Chopra argues at least five good reasons why food security and nutrition should be given high priority in actions to improve health equity and socio-economic development across the region. This is a very good report that highlights the important and contentious issues around food insecurity and offers some good policy suggestions.
