In this article written for the Mail and Guardian, Francis Ng’ambi explains why “Trade deals are the new slavery.” He wrote this article two months before the initial deadline for the EPA trade agreement (December 2007). While we now know the deadline was not met by all parties, this article highlights most of the contentious issues at the time including a critical role of the EU and the pressure it’s put on developing countries to sign the deal.
