Impacts of EPAs on Agriculture and Rural Livelihoods in the SADC Region

E-mail Print

“In the EU agricultural production is dominated by large multinational companies referred to as integrators (combining of production, processing, and distribution into a single entity). On the other hand, within the SADC region, most of the production is undertaken by small-scale producers often using hand or animal drawn implements and it is dependent on rain-fed conditions.” This report explains how EPAs will result in being an agreement that puts trade before development and cause a loss of food sovereignty. As a result, it will only worsen rural livelihoods and the SADC region altogether.
