Zambia’s trade solution: Implications for debt and poverty reduction

E-mail Print

The problem of external debts is still of major concern among civil society, government and cooperating partners. In 2005 Zambia qualified to the HIPC completion point. It was expected that this move would relive the country from its debt stock and debt service amounts.

This study was commissioned by the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR)’s Debt and Trade project. It analyses Zambia’s trade situation and looks at the relationship between debt, trade and poverty. The paper also recommends that there is an “urgent need to lobby for fair trade if debt sustainability and poverty reduction are to be a reality in Zambia.”
